Carne Asada

Carne Asada that is amazingly good for you and so tasty.  The ingredients are easy to find, and the preparation couldn't get much easier.  If you can't have the grapefruit you can opt for one lemon and one lime. While not technically detox approved, this is an excellent way to enjoy red meat post detox.  When beef is raised on grass its so much healthier for you!  See our article here on why we choose Beef for Dinner 3-4 times per month. And where do we find the beef for our carne asada - at Butcher Box!

Carne Asada

Savory grilled steak that is super tender

  • Grill
  • 1.5 pounds flank steak (must be grass fed and grass finished)
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/2 the juice of a grapefruit
  • 1/4 cup avocado oil
  • 1/3 cup reduced sodium / gluten free soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • 1/3 cup vinegar of choice (prefer red or rice wine vinegars)
  1. In a bowl combine all ingredients above except steak

  2. Pour marinade over steak and let rest for at least 4 hours (I prefer all day or overnight)

  3. Take out of fridge approximately 45 minutes before grilling to take some of chill off the meat. This will make it more tender.

  4. Grill on medium high heat for about 5 - 6 minutes on each side

  5. Let rest for at least 5 minutes (this is key for keeping it tender)

  6. Slice against the grain and serve

  7. Best served with potatoes and veggies

  8. Extra tip - make the marinade and double it. Reserve 1/4-1/2 of it (that is not used to marinate the steak with) to pour over the steak right after it comes off the grill. Can garnish with extra cilantro or some pink Himalayan sea salt.
