Zesty Burgers

Add a little Southwest flavor to your burgers

  • 1 lb. Ground Beef (Use organic grass fed / grass finished; use ground chicken or turkey during detox)
  • 1/3-2/3 c. Brown Rice (cooked)
  • 3 Tbsp Fresh chopped cilantro
  • 1 Tbsp Chili Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/8 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Himalayan Sea Salt
  1. If you haven't cooked the rice, cook it first (Trader Joe's microwave brown rice works so simply in this recipe)

  2. Add all the ingredients above and mix in bowl, then make into 5-6 patties

  3. Grill for 10-12 minutes

  4. If using a skillet instead, add 1 Tbsp Olive Oil to skillet for cooking

  5. Serve with thin whole grain buns or a lettuce wrap. Great with any kind of cheese added.

Take your burgers up a notch with the kick of cayenne, chili powder and cilantro.  Our family loves these burgers served with pepper jack cheese.  If using a bun, go for the "thin" buns that are about 100 calories (if you are going grain free, omit these).

I wrap the "cheese" burger in a lettuce wrap and make air-fryed french fries to go with them.

*omit the cheese if past Step #6 in the detox.
